Veteran - once a soldier, forever a hero!
The United States of America is based on the concept of freedom. It is our Veterans who have served to maintain that freedom. We must never forget that! We all need to show our appreciation and to help whenever we can. It is with that in mind that Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary Unit 45 was organzied.
We are a small, but growing, enthusiastic unit of men and women who are dedicated to helping Disabled American Veterens. Our Unit is located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of southwest Virginia. While we consider the work we do to be very serious, we are also a fun group of people and we try to enjoy ourselves at the same time. We hope you will look through our site, find out about us and please contact us and join us in this great cause!
We try to have gifts and pretty home made cards for all the Disabled Veterans in 3 nursing homes and 2 adult care facilities, as well as some that are homebound. This means our goal is to brighten each holiday for approximately 100 Veterans!

It's been a while since we last updated this site. So Sorry! It's been a very busy time! All of the wonderful homemade cards you sent were delivered to Veterans and much appreciated!!! Thank you so much for all your support with this ongoing project!
Christmas 2007
We delivered patriotic blankets, fruit baskets and Christmas cards to approximately 100 Disabled Veterans in Nursing Homes and homebound. Not everyone was present for this photo but everyone enjoyed helping!

Easter was very nice! Each care facility received an Easter Box with goodies like games, playing cards, bingo prizes and personal items. And we also included the beautiful cards you sent! Thank you so much!!!
Current Events
We're working on handmade patriotic cards to take to the veterans July 4th! And once again...we'd enjoy delivering your cards as well!!!
NEW PROJECT: We had a great idea and we're hoping you will agree and want to take part!!! Each Nursing Home and Assisted Living Facility has a recreation room with a television, and many patients have TVs in their rooms as well. Let's build up a movie library for all the patients! If we can get enough DVD and VHS movies to take some to each facility we can then think about maybe even rotating the movies from one to the other, giving a nice selection of movies for the patients to watch!
Please consider donatingn your old DVD and VHS movies you no long watch! We can use any movie (except ones with an x rating :-), even cartoons! Patients have grandchildren visit and wouldn't it be for them to be able to pick out a movie to watch with them!...So let's recycle our old movies and put them good use!!!!!

We received so many wonderful Thank You Cards for Veterans from school children...Thank you so much! They were all wonderful and really appreciated. I wish each of you could see the smiles on the faces of all the Veterans when they receive these very special cards!!!

Disabled Veterans In Nursing Homes & Care Facilities
Please consider helping a Disabled Veteran! We here it every day..."They collect disablity checks". Yes, some do, some don't. And for the ones in facilities the situation is very disturbing. In the vast majority of the cases, the nusing homes and care facilities receive all the money! Not the veterans themselves! These are men and women who served our country so we can live free. And you'd be upset to see how so many now live. The facilities try but they can't do it all. So many Veterans are bed bound and they don't even have televisions to watch! Or large print magazines or books to read!
